Scope, Activities and Summary Results
|
|
Scope:
- Pilot a maintenance and monitoring programme for 12 months in three Unions in Khulna Division working with local government and UNICEF-Bangladesh;
- Build local capacity through collaboration in a programme of water quality testing and monitoring led by UNICEF, University of Oxford and icddr,b;
- Collaborate with separate consultancy contracts for: a) a public finance expert, and b) a software specialist to design a monitoring database.

Activities:
- Secure government permissions for the pilot programme with a focus on priority public water infrastructure. Sign a MOU or equivalent contracting arrangement.
- Identify three Unions supported by REACH infrastructure audits. Secure local permissions and support for the work.
- Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) installations
- Sahas union, Dumuria Upazila – three piped systems
- Surkhali union, Batiaghata Upazila – 11 Pond sand filters
- Document a business model for the service delivery model including service contracts and tariffs.
- Identify, training and support to local entrepreneurs to operate the water supply systems after project period.
